    Description

Rare  item from very early in Paul Newman's acting career. This is an original program from his performances with the Woodstock (Illinois) Players of "The Late Christopher Bean" at the Woodstock Opera House Theatre in 1949. Newman joined the company soon after earning his degree at Kenyon College which followed his military service in WWII. Already something of a star, the program has a short biography of his (see scans) the only actor so honored here. Also in the cast was Chicagoan Tom Bosley (Happy Days), this being one of his earliest acting jobs too. Both actors' wikipedia biographies include their participation in the Woodstock Players. Coincidentally, The Woodstock Opera House was home to 19 year old Orson Welles' 1934 summer drama festival. Welles having attended school in Woodstock at Todd Academy where his theatrical career began. The program also features dozens of ads for local McHenry County businesses. 9" x 6", 12 pages. A rare early piece from the career of a great figure in the movies and a great humanitarian, Paul Newman.
