    1946. ROBERTS was the original Laurey in the original production of this trailblazing musical. She has signed on the cover and then again -- more insistently -- on the title page.This Playbill is not from 1943 when ROBERTS was appearing in the musical.  OKLAHOMA! is the show that ushered in the era of the so-called Great American Musical. It blended music, lyrics, libretto, character and even dance into a seamless production, taking its cue from Show Boat. After OKLAHOMA!, the American musical no longer relied on slapstick humor, stale jokes, characterless roles and curvaceous chorus girls. All pages in the Playbill are present and intact The last page and the back cover have a date penned at the bottom. And one or two pages have two or three unreadable words inked in -- but not obstructing text. Front and back covers are slightly wrinkled. Worldwide, OKLAHOMA! is still one of the most frequently performed plays.
