HERMAN WOUK - AUTOGRAPH CO-SIGNED BY: JOHN DRINKWATER, LESLIE CHARTERIS - HFSID 181566
HERMAN WOUK, LESLIE CHARTERIS, and JOHN DRINKWATER
Card signed and dated by three authors, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of
    The Caine Mutiny
and the creator of the Saint, who included the Saint's stick figure logo
    Signature:
    "Leslie Charteris 79.4.18"
    ,
    "John Drinkwater/London/February 1931"
    and
    "Herman Wouk/Washington/March 1974",
    5¾x4¼ card.
Charteris has included the stick figure logo of the Saint with his signature. WOUK (1915-2019) won the 1952 Pulitzer Prize in fiction for
    The Caine Mutiny
    .
The book became a Broadway play and the 1954 film version, starring Humphrey Bogart as Captain Queeg,
was nominated for six Academy Awards.
Wouk's other works include the best-sellers
    Marjorie Morningstar
    (1955),
    Youngblood Hawke
    (1962),
    The Winds of War
    (1971) and
    War and Remembrance
(1978). All of these works became films or - in the case of the latter two - TV miniseries. Wouk's honors include the
    Guardian of Zion Award
    (1998) and the first
Library of Congress Lifetime Achievement Award for fiction
    (2008).
    CHARTERIS
(1907-1993, born Leslie Charles Bowyer-Yin in Singapore) was an English author who is
probably best known for creating principled crook Simon Templar or the Saint.
Charteris wrote the first Saint novel
    Meet - The Tiger!
    , in 1928.
    There are, as of this biography, over 90 original Saint stories written by him and by other authors;
Charteris stopped writing Saint stories after 1963's
    The Saint in the Sun
    .
    DRINKWATER
(1882-1937, born in Leytonstone, Essex, England) was a British poet and playwright.  A prolific writer, he published 24 volumes of poetry and 19 plays, including
    Abraham Lincoln
    (1918) and
    Bird in Hand
(1928) as well as numerous biographies, two volumes of autobiography and critical works. Lightly toned and indented. Random ink stains. Otherwise, fine condition.
