Description
A fascinating Counterstamped Dollar of Great Britain. Due to the Silver shortage in Britain arising out of the Napoleonic wars, large 8 Reales of the Spanish Empire were acquired and counterstamped with an incuse portrait of king George III. These counterstamps were undated, but known to have been produced 1797-1799. This example exhibits essentially no wear on either the host coin or the countermark. There is some excess metal visible on the obverse from the strike, yet the overall appearance is most impressive. The host coin is an 8 Reales of Mexico, 1793. Beautifully toned a gun metal gray. Issued for king George III, who ruled, 1760-1820. Strong luster present. Cataloged as S-3765A, KM-634.. We will begin at 5.Conditions of Sale: PAYMENT: Paypal accepted.
