Spalted Tamarind is a beautiful wood from Southeast Asia. Much of this wood comes from logs that were either found on the forest floor or were cut and then allowed to spalt in the very damp warm conditions of the jungle. The colors and various line patterns are truly unique from one piece to another. The patterns are created as a result of insects, so expect insect holes in all spalted woods
As a world renowned artisan, I was able to form this fine writing instrument through a painstaking process that involved several hours and stages in order to present a finely polished work of art. The blank was measured and drilled before inserting a brass tube. It was then trued on each end before being placed on my Delta midi-lathe for the shaping using various chisels. When the desired shape was achieved I then took it through a multi-stage sanding process finishing with nine steps of micro-mesh, followed by a three step polishing resulting in a glass like finish.
