    Description

    Here you have an old, original
    telephone ringer box
    manufactured in the late 1800s or early 1900s by the
    Chicago Telephone Supply Company of Elkhart, Indiana
    .
    This was built to last: solid oak construction, chrome-plated steel bells, and workmanship that has survived 100 years or more.
    Just look at the amazing tongue-and-groove construction they used on the corners of the box, and the chamfered edges around the top and base.  A lot of work went into this!  All the wiring and the two cloth-wrapped electromagnets inside look pristine, so just hook this up to your iPhone, upload the operating system, and you're ready to go.
    Seriously: I bet it still works. All you need are the four mounting screws to attach it to your wall.
    A model number is stamped on the back: 97762.
    Nice and clean. All I did was wipe it down with some guitar polish. You can probably make it shine like new, if you wanted.  The chrome-plating on the bells is a bit rough, and the name plate riveted to the top shows a bit of rust/tarnish, but the box itself is still in great shape. Some minor scuffs around the edges of the base, but no cracks, breaks, chips, or other damage. Very nice woodgrain to the oak, especially on the sides.
    100% original. The base measures 7 x 7 inches, and the whole thing is about 3.5 inches tall (or thick). Still has the original wire attachments at the bottom (they look nickel-plated to me).
