Covered here are 18th century wares, which are most often found in museums; wares of early and late 19th century, generously available in antiques shops; some early 20th century wares, now coming on the antiques market; and a few present-day wares, which are being collected for the future. Ceramics familiar to the beginning collector Wedgwood, Leeds, Royal Copenhagen, Meissen and other favorites are here, but even fuller information is given about many lesser-knowns such as R.S. Prussia, Sleepy-Eye give-aways, McCoy, Roseville, Noritake, and others about which accurate information is hard to find. Most of the photographs were taken especially for this book. Excepting those of museum pieces, and a few from private collections, they purposely do not show unusual examples. Instead, they illustrate the kind of items to be seen today in antiques shops and shows. Topics are arranged alphabetically by maker or production company and presented with many color or black-and-white photos as well as black-and-white line drawings of marks. This book will be a welcome addition to the reference library of any collector, dealer, or historian of antique pottery and porcelain.
